Council’s Statement of Purpose

Council works with and for the Community

It is useful to keep this overall ‘Statement of Purpose’ in mind and to this end it is published on the cover of Agenda papers for all Council meetings.

Also of renewed importance is the adoption by the new Council of a Councillor’s Code of Conduct which sets down the standards of conduct for Councillors in the city of Glen Eira.Every councillor has been given a copy of this Code and at their induction each has signed a Declaration that they have read the Code and agreed to abide by it.

Further to this, after the opening prayer at each Ordinary or Special meeting of Council, the Councillors present recite together:

“I declare that I will undertake the duties of the office of Councillor in the best interests of the people of the municipal district of Glen Eira and faithfully and impartially carry out the functions, powers, authorities and discretions invested in me under the Local Government Act 1989 or any other Act to the best of my skill and judgement”.

Suffice to say at this stage there is every indication that Councillors are endeavouring to abide by these precepts.
